YoungArts New York

When a student applies to the national YoungArts program, he or she automatically qualifies for YoungArts New York if they attend school in one of the 5 boroughs of New York and are a New York state resident. YoungArts New York, initiated in 2005, encourages and supports the most promising artists in New York City during their senior year in high school. As a regional program underneath the umbrella of the YoungArts national program, YoungArts New York is designed to give New York City's most talented young actors, dancers, filmmakers, musicians, photographers, visual artists, vocalists, and writers the opportunity to receive financial support, scholarship assistance and artistic guidance from some of the most renowned artists, in their own backyard.

On April 17, 2010, YoungArts hosted the YoungArts New York Regional Workshop and Awards Ceremony. The Winners Workshops brings together the top-scoring YoungArts participants from New York City for workshops and training with the city’s most distinguished artists in their respective fields. The Awards Ceremony recognized these 46 talented young artists for their hard work and achievements and welcomes them as the newest members of the New York City cultural community and the YoungArts Alumni family.

During the day, workshops for each of the nine disciplines were held throughout the day at locations including the Baryshnikov Arts Center, Affirmation Arts, Ripley Grier Studios, and DANY Studios with Master Teachers including Jennifer Armas, Joan Lader, and Nestor Torres, among others. The day concluded with an Awards Ceremony where the regional winners received recognition and collected their award checks. The Master of Ceremonies was YoungArts alumna and Board Member Stephanie Waters, with Board Members and documentary filmmaking team Kirk Simon and Karen Goodman as the Keynote Speakers.
