What Panelists Look For

"The ultimate finalist is one with eyes wide open, a firm grasp on their medium, and an obvious future."

"Filmmakers are artists, not just technicians. We want people who have something of themselves to express, and can do it with flair and precision."

CINEMATIC ARTS REQUIREMENTS

Participants are required to submit work that best exemplifies the extent and quality of their accomplishments. The panelists encourage participants to present work which illustrates their knowledge of film and video production and appreciation for moving images, with an emphasis on expressing their artistic point of view. The work should demonstrate an ability to effectively communicate ideas using imagination and a willingness to take creative risks. While it is expected that participants will consult with their teachers in the selection of material for their audition, participants are urged to submit work they feel represents their creative interests.

Participants are required to submit one completed short film less than 10 minutes in length. Balance of 10 minutes may be filled by other shorts, excerpts, or works in progress.

While collaborative work is acceptable, the participant should have primary creative responsibility for the material and must identify his or her exact contribution to the work and the video content form. (ie: wrote, directed, co-directed, edited, photographed, etc.) Also, please indicate any of these key jobs that were NOT done by you. If a project is a product of a collaboration, only ONE of you may submit it for consideration. Works that suggest visual, audio or written plagiarism, i.e. a direct copy of another artist's work, will be disqualified. Please send only your highest quality work.
